What is a Young Community?

The Young Community is a special way of life in which young people decide to form a cooperative group and long lasting community.

These young people choose to live permanently in Israel’s peripheral regions and conduct joint communal life.

One of the main unique characteristics of ‘Young Communities’ is their social contribution in shaping Israeli society. They are committed to building partnerships with their local neighbors, choosing to establish and run educational projects for children, youth and adults, with the aim of aff ecting long-term social change.

‘Shnat Kehila’ Program is an opportunity for young Jews around the world, to come and join these young communities in shaping the future of the Jewish state.

Why Young Community?

As part of its national objectives, the Jewish Agency for Israel works to strengthen Israeli society and develop the socio-economically disadvantaged regions of the Negev and the Galilee.

One of the moves towards fulfi lling this objective is to support young communities that work to make a social change in these regions.
